Should I Buy a Taurus 94? - Page 2

Own two 94's, a 4" blued and a 2" stainless.
The blued gun digested 25,000 rds of wal- mart bulk pack before the transfer bar broke.
Since it's return I have at least another 10,000 rds. or so thru it.

About a two week turnaround from Taurus and it was good as new.
They did replace my Wolff spring kit though.

The stainless is still going strong after somewhere around 15,00 rds or so. Can't be positive as it is the wifes gun.

They are lighter than the .22 sp-101's of the same barrel length and just always seem to be the gun carried around here on the farm.

They are durable, reliable, and more than well worth the money spent.
And remember, I am a die-hard Ruger man thru n thru.

I think with the economy the way it is,and the prices of s&w,ruger,etc,we will see alot more posts about taurus,and there will be alot more taurus owners.And with ammo prices the way they are,alot more people will buy a .22 instead of something else.So the taurus 94 will excell

Well I put 16 rounds thru the 94 today, 30 feet at a 3" bull on a 9" paper plate. I am impressed so far. 10 in the bull and 6 on the plate, the 6 were dbl action shots and the shooter..lol Remington Hi Vel Hollow Points. Fixed the hammer spur/serations too, I'm liking this piece so far! TL

I have the 941 .22 MAG have never had a problem with it but don't shoot it much either. The trigger is just terrible even in single action takes to hands to pull the hammer back. I could put new springs in but just as easy to leave it in the safe

Here's my Taurus history:

PT92 - reliable but I couldn't shoot if worth a damn, it was me. Sold it.

94 #1 - bought it a few years ago, pretty gun, my first revolver. Had a tendency to fail to fire. I thought it was the trasfer bar not clearing. Luckily I had bought it used from a shop that takes things back within 30 days if you are not happy for any reason. Got the store credit and picked up a Ruger MkII, very happy with that.

94 #2 - bought it last week and shot it a few days later. Lots of failures to fire, firing pin barely hitting the rim of the round, and hammer lock up when trying to shoot single action. This was purchased from Cabelas, all gun sales are final, but they were happy to send it to Taurus at no expense to me. They think it will be back in a couple weeks, we'll see. It did shoot straight when it shot. The double action pull is quite heavy.

My 94 was doing the exact same thing.I'm not sure if this is normal or not.With bulk ammo,federal,winchester,It would like clockwork fail to fire 3 of 9 shots almost every load,the 2nd or 3rd try with turning the shells would usually set them off.But with winchester short ammo,it was more like 7 out of 9 fail to fires,it was just terrible.CCI ammo rarely ever failed to fire,maybe 25 in a row firing,then a misfire,then 20 more firing fine,etc.I sent it back to taurus about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back yet.

The Sp 101 is one of the most popular revolvers of all time and the .22 version is somewhat rare. You can buy it today new for $450 and sell it used tomorrow for at least $500. I think the odds that this model will increase in value are very good. Besides the investment potential, its a just plain wonderful revolver. It is heavy and solid in a good way, Harley Davidson, old Mercedes solid. I've held the 94 and it is probably a good gun, but the Ruger is the one.

Hiya aarondgraham. Since you ask, I found mine at Target World in Springdale, Cincinnati, Ohio. But it was more than five years ago, and I haven't seen another one since. I'm keeping mine. It's my favorite .22 revolver, heavy in a good way, steady, lovely trigger. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Have patience, something will turn up.

No one who owns one ever wants to get rid of theirs.

I had one many years ago,,,
But the ex-wife got it in the divorce,,,
I would rather she had taken the dang car,,,
But no, she had to have the Ruger "'cause it's so cute".

I search through gunbroker every week,,,
I'll find me a good one eventually,,,
Probably cost me a fortune.

I would get the Sp-101

1. Its a sound Investment, they are discontinued and they are almost always higher in price then their centerfire counterparts just due to rarity. You could buy it shoot it and probably get more then you paid for it down the road...

2. I like Rugers...

I almost had a LNIB 63 but their was a mix up and the gunstore and the sold it via online I came to pick it up and received a beat up model 67 I wasn't happy.

94s are tempting but Taurus has bit me before.

I have two Taurus revolvers, the 85 and 94. After reading some of these reviews I should be concerned about their safety and durability, however, I am not. I suppose I could mention some problems I have had with a few of my other guns, but I won't. Just because I have had a problem(s) with a certain model(s) does not mean that they are all worthless junk. That just means I had a problem with one.

I guess that those of us with Taurus guns need to speak up. I love both of my revolvers and have had absolutely no problems with either. My wife an Grandson both use the 94 a lot and would rather use it than my new Ruger SR22.
