870, without doubt. Mine has been through some awful abuse and has never malfunctioned. That said, all the major manufacturers pump guns are good.

Ithaca 37, Winchester 12, Remington 870 Wingmaster and the Browning BPS. The rest are, well, just the rest!

^ I agree with Slugo. These are the classics. Might throw the Remington 31 into that group also. But I have to admit that possibly the slickest pump I own is a....Winchester 1200, though it's not in the same class as the others overall, IMO.

As far as currently made pumps go, I like the Browning BPS best. Long discontinued pumps that I've either owned and/or shot, I liked the Remington Model 31, the Winchester Models 97 and 12 and the Marlin Model 120.

Winchester model 12. I love holding the trigger back to have it fire as I pump the action. Great skeet gun, great hunting gun. Bought it in 1960. It's favorite shotgun and I have a Winchester and 2 Browning Lightning o/u.

Mine has more sentimental value than monetary value. My Stevens model 67L seriesE. It was my father's that he bought brand new. He passed it on to me. It shoots like a gem. I've refinished the wood and keep it clean. It will get a little use this year but most use will go the my 500. It isn't near as valuable to me. I could care less if it gets banged up.

Hands down, the 870. Reason being, it's what I've been using for the overwhelming majority of my shooting / LE career. The fact that it's as tough as nails and as reliable as the sunrise helps, too.

It's wonderful. Smooth action, lightweight, and superior control placement.

I also appreciate that it loads with the carrier up. I wonder why more shotguns aren't designed that way.

Also, I really like the roll engraving. Adds a touch of class.

In still pains me to look at this picture, since I lost all of them in a robbery, but my two favorite pumps are the Ithaca Mod. 37(third from left), and the Winchester model 12(third from right).

My very favorite was a Browning auto that my dad bought in 1955. All i can remember is that it would fire five rounds as fast as i could pull the trigger and that it was gold. The trigger that is. I was like a monkey after a shiney object,but i was only five years old and he had promised that one to his brother. The HD that i have has never been fired. A Charles Daly that the extractor pin broke before i had a chance to go out to play. Was it me? I don't know,but i can't find any one to fix it because they say that there aren"t parts for it and the co. has gone out of business. HELP!!!!!

As for pump action models, I like the old school Franchi-SPAS 12ga.
I've seen a few BPS models & the new 887 Tactical pump that make the grade too.

I chose the 870 Express Super Magnum 3.5'' because it was my first shotgun I ever bought new. It can do it all. There isnt a more versitile shotgun on the planet. I will own this shotgun until I croak.

870 been mine for years,because my go to rifle is a 7600 in 270win I am a BIG fan of pump action shotguns & rifles. Pretty fast off hand & really dependable. It all adds up to safe fun.

Ithaca model 37 and Mossberg 500. I like the idea of the model 37 ejecting underneath. The Mossberg is just a pump that every police dept and the U.S. military used in the 60's &70's and has lots of accessories.
