From what I understand the ban is on everything after the start date (don't remember the exact date but sometime during the Clinton Gun Ban).
No mags bigger than 10 rds on anything but tube fed 22's No threaded barrels (flash hiders) Muzzle brakes are case by case. The dreaded pistol grip/bayonet deal effects above. No laser sights (like Crimson Trace) the holo-sight types are okay. There is an approved weapon roster that is a pita. If the item (mag, gun, upper) was not in the state prior I am almost positive it cannot be brought in unless it was owned prior and even then iffy.

Yes you can have bayonets. You cannot carry one if it is double edged. Yes you can put a bayonet on a preban rifle in MA. The rifle does not have to have been in MA prior to the Ban's enactment. There is nothing in the Ban about Laser sights. |

Before 94 = preban after 94= postban
Chipperman are you sure preban rifles dont have to be instate before the ban to be legal. always was told prebans must be instate before the ban to be legal. on preban you get the works on postban no bayo lug/flashider/collapsible stock on postbans you get one evil feature most people choose detach mags. yep it sucks, welcome to MA hey if your thinking about coming to MA bring lots of vaseline, you tend to get well you know quite a bit. after a while you get used to it if you still need info go onto Northeast Shooters, im a member over there great bunch of guys and lots of info. take a look |

I just moved out of MA in April 2009. I escaped across the border into NH.
So yes, I know the MA laws quite well. I had a Class A license and even a machine gun license in MA. Preban rifles do not need to have been in MA before the ban. Some MA FFLs will not transfer them b/c they do not want any potential harrassment from the MA AG, but it is perfectly legal. Same thing with preban mags. So if you want to get preban rifle and mags in NH and bring them home to MA, that is fine. |
