remington rolling block

hello all, my question is , does anyone have an idea of how strong the new remington rolling block rifles in 45-70 are? would they compare with the marlin? remington says they are strictly black powder but with modern steel and all that i wonder.

It isn't just the steel it's also the locking system. The Marlin will take pressures of 40,000 psi but I wouldn't want to go above 28,000 for the RB, that's the SAAMI limit for the cartridge.Considering the performance of the typical factory loads which are loaded to only about 18,000 the cartridge loaded to 28,000 is very potent. Are you going after T-Rex ?

Rolling Block 45-70

Years ago there was an article on converting the Rolling Block to 45-70. Even at that time, some 25-30 years ago they recommended the only action suitable was those originally chambered for 7MM Mauser cartridges. No other action was considered suitable. I'd proceed with caution.

Only safe bet is to check with the manufacturer.

so, do you guys think that 78 grains of imr 4895 with a 350 grain hornady round nose might be a little too much for my remington rolling block #1 sporter?

work is the ruination of an otherwise perfect lifestyle.
