Need help with AR15 build

I am fairly new to guns, but it is my new addiction

. I am looking at building an AR15, and have a good friend that can get me a spikes tactical full lower reciever for a good price. I want to get a chrome lined upper that is good quality and good on my wallet. Where can I find one?

What size gas system and barrel length do you want? Are you wanting commercial or a mil spec? Whats the intended use?

I am looking for a mil spec 16" upper. I want an inexpensive (but not cheap) upper. I found one here that looks like everything I need? Any help or other options would be appreciated

Well in that case Bravo company is my vote for you. Best price/performance ratio out there. Completely mil spec, decently inexpensive. After reading those i'd be hard pressed to find another brand for the price. Not to say other brands aren't good. Per say if you don't want BCM, Daniel Defense, Spikes, and LMT are all great for the price. LMT might be a little more expensive but i'm not sure as i don't look at many of them. Noveske is also awesome but you pay for it, they're expensive. Are you wanting a carbine or mid length gas system also?

There is a carbine system, still 385$. Have you settled on the brand you linked to or you'll still open to opinions?

Also just food for thought, carbines are fine and all, but from what i understand mids are more reliable, shoot softer, and are more manipulative. But it's your rifle get what you want. If you like the way a carbine looks over mid or have other reasons thats perfectly fine.

I gotta say buying a complete lower and assembled upper is not a "build". But that's just my opinion.

Having or having had multiples of both carbines and midlengths I'd have to say I don't really favor either; i.e., they both work just fine. While recoil may be a tad lighter with the middy, if you're looking for it, and parts wear may be a little less - to a degree probably never to be realized by most civilian shooters - the only difference you might benefit from is the slightly longer sight radius.

What that is meant to convey is that you shouldn't pass on a good deal on a carbine that's otherwise like what you want.

I meant that in the sense of having more grip. Not that you can actually move faster with a mid. Probably could've worded that better.

I am not set on the one that I linked, just thought it was a good price. Because I am fairly new to this, I wanted to get the "experts" opinion. I like the BCM and the reviews are awesome. I am not opposed to the mid length either. I am just starting out, and this will be my first rifle "build" (sorry I guess I considered it a build because I was not buying a full rifle). Any advice on the subject would be appreciated

Thats the reason i went with BCM, have yet to find a bad review. But if you didn't settle on BCM and maybe wanted spikes, DD, or LMT etc. They're still good brands. BCM does everything completely mil spec down to the smallest detail and includes lifetime warranty, not that the others don't but i haven't looked at the others that much.

A little more money, but you get what you pay for. In the 6.8 realm, he's a legend.

I have a 6.8spc AR upper, with his barrel/bolt/carrier. It's incredible quality, and the man himself builds them. Why settle for another cookie cutter AR, when you can have a wicked accurate AR.

He uses the midlength gas system, with a SOCOM/RECON profile barrel.

Other than him, I'd look to BCM. Good reviews, with good prices. Personally, I'm a Daniel Defense guy. DD builds EVERYTHING in house(except furniture). Incredible quality, with awesome customer support.
My DDM4V2 may have been the best 5.56 AR I have owned(out of 7)Absolutely incredible.

I do like DD alot also. After reading thesheepdogs experience with it and plenty of solid feedback they seem like great rifles. Plus they make my Omega rails
