Mid-.44 Mag loads with VV N340?
I just picked up some VihtaVouri N340 at the gun show (only place I can get it in Austin) in order to try it out with .44 specials. Unfortunately, I've loaded up all of my .44 special brass and all I have left is several hundred .44 mags.
The problem is I only have lead RNFP bullets (200 grain from T&T Reloading). The only loads I can find are for 1400 fps type loads using jacketed bullets in .44 mag. I'd really like to produce some 1000-fps type stuff. Can it be done with this powder? The other powders I have on hand are Universal & Titegroup. I'm playing with those in .44 special already. Just need to cycle through the brass. Jeff

Only experience I have with N340 and .44 mag is with a 300 grain plated rainier. The loads worked...by that I mean they went bang...but were very lame, being slow and underpowered yet probably generating a lot of pressure. I think N340 is really not such a good powder for .44 mag. I have great results with AA#9 and H110. VVN110 is good also I believe if you're loyal to the brand

Nah not loyal, I've just always heard people talking about it so I figured I would buy some. N110 only comes in 2lb containers and I wasn't ready to spend $40 on it.
I usually use H110 and Universal, depending on what I'm shooting.

Well, it's the cats meow for .40 and 9mm as far as I'm concerned. Other then that....yes, it will work, but not optimally.
