PPC / IDPA and Holsters

I have inferred from posts that FBI cant holsters are either not allowed, or not preferred. I noticed that most folks carry on the belt and not IWB. I must assume that this is preference for competition. I'm in California, so I would guess that the only carry that most folks do is weekend range carry to protect them from the occasional deer that passes by.

IDPA rules allow a LOT of holster styles and features, check the IDPA web site for specific makes and models.

BTW I use a Galco G-slide for my 1911 and hi-power.

While a straight drop holster is faster to draw from, the IWB and FBI cant is easier to conceal. Competitors in any forum tend to use the fastest equipment allowed.

For IDPA, it makes sense tactically to use the holster you might or do carry.

I like my kydex paddle (straight drop or FBI cant) or my FBI cant IWB holster. Of course, some people "game" it in IDPA, seeking every millisecond they can get. Better to concentrate on tactics and fundamentals, imo. Take care

Confessions of an IDPA cheat:
As much as I take my IDPA shooting serious I still tend to cheat a little. In real life, I wear IWB holster for a G-26 or J-frame S&W. Why? Because they are small, practical and I can truly be concealed. But for IDPA matches I wear my open top combat holster and my 1911 Springfield Armory /Trophy Match. Why? Cause it is just plain more fun with a big .45 and faster on the draw.

But I'm getting ready to buy a Glock 19 and will use it both in competition (Fobus paddle holster) AND for carry (IWB leather from Backwoods Leather in Portsmouth, VA).

In IDPA you can use any holster on the approved list. and lots of shooters use FBI cant including myself.
BTW if straight drop was faster I would use it but it isn't

probably 80% of the holsters I make are FBI

Thanks for your help. I ended up going with a leather holster IWB with a 15% cant for my P7M8. I thank Sawbones for the referral to Matt DelFatti: http://personalpages.tds.net/~delfatti/
I opted for the IWB since that is how Matt wears his P7 and I have lost a good bit of weight recently and can now keep my old pants

Matt is also providing a couple of mag. holders and a leather belt. I ignored speed in competition and went for best carry.
