Issues With Leupold IMS Cantilevered Rings

Leupold makes the Mark 2 AR 2-pc Integrated Mounting System rings. The base of the rear ring sits behind the ring. What's the pt in cantilevering the ring forward of the base? This ring will give me 1/10" clearance between the top of a Diamondhead D-45 offset rear sight (is mounted directly atop the pic rail) & the bottom of the ocular bell for the Leupold AR Mod 1 1.5 - 4 x 20mm scope. So far it looks like that'll work even though 1/10" isn't a lot. But being a newbie to the AR will the ring end up occupying the spot on the pic rail where I'll want my D-45 to be? My eyes are not the best but as long as that rear sight is close to my eye it'll be fine. ..would like to use these Leupold rings. ..just not sure if it's doable.
