M1 Garand Value

Hello,
I have a DCM M1 Garand that I would like to sell to a friend. Can someone give me an approximate value? The condition is military issue, without problems.

You need a lot more information to give an accurate value. Garand values vary wildly according to the parts they have and condition. If it's just a sale to a friend and your not trying to get market value, $800 or $850 would pry be a common value for a Garand in nice shape. To get an accurate price you'll need to post more pictures and supply more info. Stock cartouches, barrel date and manufacturer, receiver S/N range and manufacturer, op rod drawing number and if its cut, pic of the top of the gas cylinder, bolt numbers, and picture of the trigger assembly and all the numbers on the parts. There's more and more that can be considered, but that's the big stuff. It just depends how accurate you want to be. Muzzle wear and throat erosion are also a big deal when assessing value. $600-650 is a fair price, you would get more at a gun show but may not be worth the extra work.

Very true.

If the Garand is all International Harvester, or all Winchester, parts, buy it. Look for IHC on the marked parts, or WRA.

I forget what barrels IHC’s used, but they are not marked IHC.

Anyway, if the rifle is all correct IHC or WRA you have hit the jackpot.

Prices on M1 Garand's can be all over the map. Condition is very important, and a recent sale was over $9K while others are in the $500 dollar range. This page may help you find a comparable rifle to help you price yours: GunStockMarket M1 Garand Sales.

I have never sold a gun, I am strictly a buyer and intend to pass all my guns to my son which I hope he will do the same.One day we may not be able to buy guns, especially ones considered to be "ASSAULT WEAPONS", but they can only get them "from my dead cold hands" and even then they go to my son unless they created "my dead cold hands" when they came for my guns. I will never sell my heritage, "MOLON LABE"

Ray, I feel that's fair. That is in line with CMP prices and your friend is getting a bonus in that you seem to have taken quite good care of it for years; since you refer to it as a DCM rifle you must have had it a while.

I bought one from a friend for $700 and it's a mix master but shoots pretty well. I bought it for a shooter not as a collector piece. Mine is a Springfield action from 1943 and was re-barreled with a Springfield 1952 barrel. I'm assuming that it was probably re built in 1953 but restocked recently as there is no cartouches anywhere on it. So I feel that your price is very reasonable.

I know this is an old thread, but have a question along the same lines. I have a DCM International Harvester Garand I’m looking to sell that I purchased in the late 80’s or early 90’s through the DCM before the CMP took over. Anyway, receiver, hammer, trigger pack, gas screw and rear sight has IHC markings, almost 100% positive the bolt is Springfield. Stock is dinged up from use (imagine that), I have no idea what the throat or barrel gauges…barrel is ’54 I think and bore isn’t pitted, although it is dark. Any idea of value, for insurance and possible sale value, thanks.

Wow - this zombie thread has been resurrected not once, but twice.

That said, I wouldn't expect any more from a typical DCM mixmaster than what the CMP is selling them for today.
