Caveat: I do not own and XD, an XDm, or an XDs. I have had one chance to put a few magazines through an XD in .45 acp. Accordingly, my experience is very limited.

With that said, I found the XD to be a pleasure to shoot, very comfortable.

I've had my XD45 for 7 years or so??? Absolutely love it. Very reliable. Fits my hand like a glove. I have no complaints. I think if you are looking for one the older non-XDM's, could find a good price with most wanting the newer models.

I have the older 4 in XD 45ACP and the new XDm 3.8 in 9MM. Both are great guns. I would not hesitate to purchase an XDm in 45ACP.

i have the xdm 45. very good shooter. huge capacity for 45 - only surpassed by the fnp 45. nice rugged design. great trigger. HUGE GRIP. even with the smallest backstrap, it feels like a brick, and i have HUGE hands.

I've got one that I inherited. The capacity is awesome, I have small hands however and even with the smallest backstrap it feels big. It is pretty darn accurate, and the trigger is not bad at all, way better then the M&P 45 (also had one of those, traded it recently as part of a deal for another S&W 1911).

If you compare it side by side with the M&P, and the equivalent Glock, honestly if you pick whichever is more comfortable in your hand, you won't be wrong.

I shot one at a LGS in Minnesota, and I found it pleasant to shoot. I found it to be slightly more ergonomically comfortable to shoot for my smallish hands compared to the full size Glock 21 Gen4.

I have owned the XDM45 in both 4.5 and 3.8 compact sizes. the 4.5 was my first gun purchase and it was beast. I loved that gun. the way it fit in my hand, the accuracy, the trigger break, recoil management, all were superior to any other 45 cal pistol I have ever shot. I loved it so much 1 year ago yesterday I bought the 3.8 compact for concealed carry purposes. the compact lives up to the full sized version in all respects. accuracy, reliability, trigger everything is exactly the same only a smaller package. I traded the 4.5 to my brother for his XDM9 as I was no longer shooting the full size since I always took the compact when I went to the range, so I traded for the cheaper ammo.

I would take the XDM4.5 45ACP over a glock 21 or 1911 anyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

There are XDm 45's in 3 sizes 5.25, 4.5 and the 3.8 (compact ).

Specifically which 45 are you looking for opinions on?

I have two friends with 4 of them between them. a compact XD, XDM in 9, XDM 5.25 in 9, and a XDM in 45.

They all love them and they seem to function extremely well on a variety of bullet diets, including handloads.

My friend is a deadeye with with his XDM9 (hasn't shot the 5.25 yet) and my other buddy can keep a 4" group at 50' with the one in .45. I have yet to see them jam or malfunction. I would rate them objectively as a really nice firearm.

Unfortunatley - I can't hit a barn from the inside with one myself. My hands apparently do not like striker style weapons. I've tried and tried, and I just plain suck shooting them. I like the grip and the feel, and the compact would make a great carry piece, but I'd be afraid I'd hit myself before a BG in a defense situation.

There are 4 XDms in my safe.

5.25, 4.5 and 3.8 in 9mm and 5.25 in 45.

The 4.5 was the first gun I had purchased in years and years and did so after a good friend loaned me his in order to take my CHL test.

Then the wife began shooting it and purchased the 3.8 so I could get mine back.

The 5.25s came about when I began shooting IDPA.

I prefer them over a Glock.

The Smith M&P line is a very close second.

I have the 4.5" XDm45. I love it! I think the grip is one of the smallest I have handled in a full size, double stack, poly gun 45.
I had a Powder River trigger kit put in but didn't think the stock trigger was all that bad.

After owning a G30, PX4 (all three calibers), G36, and a M&P .40 (have since sold or traded all). I now have a XDM 3.8 .45 that is my favorite. The grip safety took a little getting used to but, after that no complaints at all.

All of my XD and XDM's have been great and problem free ... I dont have really large hands. I wear a large in gloves and the XDM 45 isnt too big feeling in my hands. Doesnt feel much bigger than the XDM 9
