I got a black lab when he was about 3 years, been lost/abandond and kept him 10 years until he had difficulty getting up from his bunk. loved to sleep outside atop the doghouse roof in the corner of my house where I had rugs and 0old sleeping bag piled on. litterally saved my life once. nearly killed me to put him down. good luck with the new pup.
