rem 870 forend tube ? 20 v.12

Are the tube assemblies interchangeable within the two gauges, ie will a 20 ga assm fit a 12 ga receiver?

I am wanting to obtain the metal work to attach a new pump/forearm and not tear down my original, and am finding 20 ga assemblies more easily and cheaply than a 12. My impression is that 20/16/12 all take the same size pump metal.

No, I am pretty sure they are a different diameter, since it takes two different spanner wrenches to remove the forend nuts.

Different sizes. Most 20 gauges were built on a smaller frame, but there were quite a few built on the 12 gauge frame.

Been hunting turkeys. Thanks for all replies. I will hold out for one in 12 ga size (online).
