J frame hammer springs
Can anyone tell me if the factory hammer spring is heavier on the s&s j frames, with the frame mounted firing pins, than the ones with the hammer mounted pins? If I am correct the ones with the hammer mounted firing pins had a 8.5 lb. factory spring. The ones with the frame mounted firing pins seem to have a much stronger trigger pull, even when the rebound spring is lightened up, which leads me to believe the hammer spring is heavier than 8.5 lb. Does anyone know if changing the hammer spring to an 8 lb. Wolf, in the frame mounted guns effects their reliability?

I think that the answer is yes.
I've heard from a number of people that the hammer spring rate had to be upped because the frame-mounted firing pin requires a much firmer "whack." That's because you lose a tremendous amount of energy in the transfer from the hammer to the firing pin to the primer as compared to the hammer mounted firing pins.
