I've almost always used stripper clips. I purchased and installed some of the duck-billed mags, but I went back to the original configuration because using detachable mags just didn't feel right. I have Ak's if I want to use detachable mags, so the stripper clips are a fun change of pace. I honestly never knew the SKS could be loaded from the bottom until I saw this thread. I may give it a try next time just for fun.

I hand load with bolt open or just use a stripper clip. I have an old beat to crap Norinco that I bought at the local gun/pawn shop 15 years ago for $100 that had the duck billed magazine on it. It actually works so I left it in place and load 20 rds and push the top round down and slide the bolt over top of the round closed so there is nothing in the chamber but 20 rds ready to go just by chambering a round. It's sit in my front closet by the main entrance for years with a .12 gauge shotgun.
