55 grain FMJ Hornady or Lake City

I have been using Privi 55gr FMJ. Those are $39 a thousand. OK for plinking, very inconsistent as far as weight (As are the 62gr). I wanted an FMJ that shoots well also.

The choice seems to be between Hornady at $85/1000 and Lake City at $90/1000

The gun is an AR-15 M-4.

Which seems to be more accurate in your experience?

The advantage for the Lake City is that I figure it will fragment like in their loaded ammo. A real 5.56 battle bullet.

I know lots of guys who reload LC 55gr FMJBT and they all like it. You can do better than $90/1000 though.

Also where are you getting PRVI bullets for $39/1000 and what type of groups do they give you?

Im currenty loading some Hornady 55gr. fmj and they are very accurate out of my mini-14. I usually buy sierra but they were out the last time I was in need and ended up with the Hornady. They are good bullets in my opinion.

Hornady's bulk FMJ are some of the best plinking projectiles around IMO.

I have some of the Hornady headed my way right now, but haven't shot them before. I have been using Montana Gold. When I checked them in my varmint rifle for accuracy, multiple 5 shot groups at 100 yards averaged 0.889". I will be interested to see if the Hornady's do any better. But the open base FMJ bullets will never be able to compete with HP's.
