308 bullet identification
I purchased a lot of blemished 308 bullets from Midway. All are recognized Hornady exept one.
It is a 125 grain poly tipped bullet. Box says 125 bonded boat tail. It is not a boat tail. From the cannelure forward including the poly tip, it is identical to the sst. I called Hornady and they said it could be one of their contract bullets but could not give me any info. I could not identify it by ammo makers or components. Anybody have any idea on what it is? |

need more info. But, offhand, a cannelure is a pretty good hint for either hornady or a contracted bullet meant for a factory load. Is it the traditional hornady red tip?

Welcome to the forum.
Since the box isn't marked correctly, have you weighed it and double-checked the diameter? It might be someone's 7.62×39 bullet, in which case it might be .308" or .310"? What color is the polymer tip?

It mics out at 308, weight is 125, and the poly tip is a brownish sand color.
The other 4 bullets I got from this batch of Midway blemished are Hornadys. They have been repacked into blue boxes with Midway lable. Two years ago I received a couple boxes of labeled and supposedly 180 poly tipped but were actually 160 Hornady flex tips so the mislabled boat tail part doesn't surprise me. Thanks cornbush
It is a new accutip designed for the new 30 Remington AR.
Hornady makes it. Thanks for the lead. |
