Modification to Beretta 92 F

I am going to put a Millett adjustable sight on my Beretta 92. I was told by a Millett representative that the rectangular bar, I can't remember the name, that sticks out just in front of the rear sight, needs to be ground down. I have the equipment to do the grinding, but I do not know how to get it out. I could probably get ti out, but I would like the pistol to function later. If someone could tell me how to get it out and put it back in after. Thnaks in advance for any help I get.

That piece is the top portion of your firing pin block. It is held in the slide by the small roll pin directly under the piece on the side of the slide. There is also a spring inside the slide.
If you remove this roll pin, it is not advisable to re-use it. But you can if need be. Roll pins tend to distort and open when removed from thier confines. You have to be careful also that (if you do grind it) you don't remove too much since there is only a small bit there before you hit the retaining hole for the firing pin block.

Remember though, that the firing pin should be removed before doing anything to this area. AND....Once you grind that piece, it will no longer be blued!
Sounds like a gunsmith job to me though...I wouldn't recomend altering such a good gun. Remember that this part is a safety device...

Good luck in whatever you choose to do...

If you're good w/a grinder, grind. A belt sander will give you more consistent results. Me, I'll mill it. Not bragging, but my mill is a mill file and yes, it's hand powered and operated.

Be sure to test it for function after you work on it. This is done after assembling the slide. Push on the back of the firing pin. It should not protrude from the firing pin hole. Now, depress the firing pin block and simultaneously push on the firing pin. The firing pin should protrude through the hole.
