Smith VCI paper.

When I opened my factory-new Smith Model 25, it was resting on a piece of dark tan paper. I'm assuming this is VCI paper.

One side of this paper is blank (plain, no writing), and the other side has an image of a handgun with this wording: "Place opposite side against metal."

When I opened the case, the gun was lying on the printed side.

I'm trying not to be stupid here, but shouldn't the gun have been resting on the blank side?

VCI paper is not polar. It doesn't matter, unless one side was polymerized or plasticized.
Either way, it still does its job.

I suspect the instruction is to make sure gun oil or other treatment can't cause the printing ink to come off the paper and stick to the gun. But it shouldn't make much difference to where the vapors go.
