Mec 700 Versamec?
I have been reading about the MEC 600 Jr and started looking for one. Then I came across a Mec 700 Versamec with lots of accessories for 100.00. I have not been able to find out much about the MEC 700, seems like most talk about the others. My question is, is this a machine worth getting? Is it any good?
Here is what the guy told me about: "Mec 700 (Versamec) 12 ga. loader with many accessories (charge bars, Univeral charge bar, bushings, powder scale, powder, shot (lead) hulls and wads, primers, reloading books, owner's manual, etc) It is set up for 2 3/4" reloading, but it may be adjusted to do 3" also. I just never loaded any 3" rounds with it. I used to shoot trap and duck hunt a lot, but have gotten away from it. I can send you some pictures of everything. I will sell it all for $100." I was going to jump on it, but wanted to check with the "Pro's" first. |

Mec (versamec)
I bought a versamec a few years ago when I was shooting trap. It is a very nice reloader. I like the fact that it resizes the brass too. The 600's don't resize the brass, so if you are shooting different guns you sometimes have jamming problems. I've loaded quite a few thousands with my versamec without a hitch. At $100.00 dollars it sounds like a very good deal. Loading for shotgun doesn't save as much as it used to, but it is still fun. Even if I don't shoot as much as I used to, I enjoy reloading enough to have a good time.

I got rid of my 600 Jr a few years ago, and I was given a VersaMEC shortly after that. Good relaoder, and $100 is a great price.

Thanks for responding. I just have never heard of the 700 and it doesn't seem, anyone is talking about it, when I search for info on it.

For $100.00 jump all over it!!! I got one back in the late 70's and it is still running very well. I don't know why they discontinued it. The 700 is better than the 600jr.

Picked up a MEC 700!
(originally posting this in the wrong spot)
I got it and it looks to be in real good shape. Only had to use a little lube on the shaft the spring goes up and down, to quiet it down some. Was kind of noisy. Here are some I just finished. There is a tiny hole in the middle, but I think it is because these shells have been fired a few times. The first one I did, I measured the amount of powder coming out and it was at 16.2, 16.0 is spec so I thought it was ok. I made 5, then measured again and came up with 18.0. OOPS! I put the next smaller bushing in and it is at 16.1 - 16.4. I set the first 5 aside until I find out if I can shoot them or not. I can't find any data to tell me if the 18.0 are going to be ok to shoot. This is what I loaded: Win AA shell, Red Dot powder (16.0 spec), Win 209 primer, WAA12LS wad and 1 1/8 lead mag shoot. Is the 18.0 going to cause trouble if I fire them off in my Model 870 Wingmaster or my Stoger SXS? I am guessing they call reddot reddot because of the small red dots (looks like paint chips) in the powder? Last edited by msta999; June 12, 2010 at 11:37 AM. |
