I load for .41 mag. I have 3 powders I like. For mild load that I use for steels, and plinking. I use Trail Boss. It gives great casefill, burns clean with my home cast LSWC. For hotter loads with the lead bullets I use Acurate Arms #9. It burns clean, gives a loud boom, and nice velocity. For Jacketed bullets and scorcher, thunderous booms, and a good bit of muzzle flash I use H-110.
All 3 of theese powders work well in .44 mag as well.

I started handloading 12 years ago because 44 mag ammo cost too much and is too wimpy.

I have been loading the same 44 mag load for 12 years:
24 gr H110, 240 gr JHP.

That load is in a lot of books.

I have never been tempted to load it hotter, because it is hot enough.

I have been loading 18.5gr of 2400 for my 7-1/2in SBH

Chrony says that it is going just south of 1250fps

Edit: Forgot to mention that is with a 240gr LSWC

I shoot a Ruger 5 1/2 SBH, and a S&W 629 Mountain Gun. I have standardized on two basic loads.

1. 250gr Keith 429421 over 7.5gr of Unique in 44 Special cases.

2. 250gr Keith 429421 over 20gr of 2400 in 44 magnum cases.

I use 20.0 gr of WIN296 with 250gr Kieth GC (4 parts WW and 1 part linotype). Ive been running it through my 7 1/2 SBH for about 40 years. Accurate and hard hitting.

Watch for pressure signs and keep an eye on your cylinder for signs of failure. Have fun

sc928porsche, that load (20 gr. 296 with a 250 gr. SWC) is below minimum in every manual I have. Was that a typo, or is that really a load you have good success with?
