I am new to reloading and wish to avoid fouling problems in my AR-15. I will be loading both 55 grain and 63 grain bullets. Any suggestions for a clean burning powder? Thanks

Win 748 works well for me, and is fairly flexible. H-335 also has a good reputation. Since Olin makes the powders for Hodgdon, there may be less of a difference between the two powders than you think. Walt

I've used Varget and H-335 in 223, neither seemed to be very dirty. I've used 748 in 308 and it seems to be fairly clean also. No matter what powder you use there will be some soot left over.

All the previous suggestions are good. I've also had very good results in .223 using Hodgdon BLC-2

try wc-846, at least with 55 grain bullets. it is surplus powder, originally produced by Olin (Winchester), and falls between BLC-2 and H-335, according to the folks at St. Marks, Florida, and is available in my area, don't know about other areas. Have also used it in bolt rifles, 308, with 168 and 173 grain FA Match bullets, where it worked very well for 200 and 300 yard rapid fire stages in the NMC. There were supposedly some lot to lot variations, so proceed with care.
