Pistol finish question
I am thinking about having a custom 1911 built. I was wanting to have the slide finished in black and the frame in OD Green. My question is that if they finish the entire gun in black parkerize, can I have the frame duracoated over that? I thought I heard that the Parkerize would make a good primer for duracoat. Any/all feedback is greatly appreciated. I am wanting a finsh similar to that of a Wilson CQB with a Black Slide and OD Green Frame. Any/all suggestions greatly appreciated

If the 2 tone green/black is what you are after, I'd look into Birdsong and associates Black-T/Green-T instead. It is teflon/polymer based, extremely durable, and vastly increases the lubricity of the weapon. From experience, I can say the claim is valid. My duty P220 (all black-T) is proof. Walter, Sr. has recently passed away, and is missed. A bit more expensive, but well worth the investment. Here's the link:

Yes, you can duracoat right over the black parkerize and get that cool OD Green look. Here are some pics of my 10mm build in combat green using duracoat.

Pistol coatings, plate work...
For great pistol coating or service work, I'd suggest these well known firms;
Robar Guns; www.RobarGuns.com Bearcoat; www.Bearcoat.com Black-T; www.Black-T.com or maybe Accurate Plating & Weaponry; www.APWCogan.com . The NIC-Cerakote coating from APWCogan.com is cool and the site has a link to a color chart where you can mix & match slide/frame colors on a duty size Glock pistol. Black, Brown, OD green, Tan, Grey, etc. Bearcoat is impressive and the shop says it has a "lifetime" service policy. Robar offers a lot & does a lot of military/DoD/industry work. I'd avoid the black Rogard coating. It nicks & scuffs quickly.  The NP3+ is very practical but is a dull grey-nickel based color. Clyde |
