Ar in .243

Im looking for a semiautomatic .243 on the ar platform but I have no clue where to look. Not really wanted to spending a bunch of money but just wondering where I can find one or where I could get the parts to build one would be even better. Can an ar 243 upper be put on a ar15 lower with little to no gun smithing? I would love to build a ar .243 to save money.

A .243 AR has to be built on a .308 or "AR-10" chassis, mostly because of the cartridge OAL... Lots of makers, but none real cheap.
You can build short 6mms on an AR15 lower however... in fact, one is called 6mmAR.

Cheers,
C

You can chamber an AR-15 in the .243 WSSM....
I'm sure barrel life is a bitch, though...
But, it'll push a 100 grain bullet over 3100 fps...

Give Dtech a call or Robert Whitley. They both make superb uppers for 6mm and 243WSSM.
The WSSM doesn't eat the throat out as bad as everyone thinks either, just keep to heavy bullets and don't run them at top speed.

Neither one of these options are cheap though, not sure what you are wanting to spend.

AR 10 .243 Winchester

I just purchased an AR 10 in .243 Winchester. Just won it on auction today so no experience shooting it yet. Very limited manufacturers Armalite and DPMS, I bought an Armalite. I have a couple of bolt action .243s and all of the reloading equipment and components so it seemed to make sense to get that caliber. I have an AR 15 in .223 but wanted a black rifle with more stopping power. I heard better reviews on the Armalite although they and DPMS are back ordered. I have been looking for a while and found this one and only on gunbroker.com yesterday and won the auction. I think it's going to be a lot of fun to shoot! I'll let you know how it goes.
