English powder flasks
I've been asked to restore a Hawksley powder flask. I might be able to use a commercial soring but may have to make a spout.
Anyway, why did some flasks have tassels? this one is missing them but I see it I Ray Rilings' book on powder flasks.

Found an image of a similar flask. The one I'm working on looks like this one on both sides.

I love the flasks.
Ned Roberts wrote that the flasks started to partially replace horns when they became popular with he cap n' ball pistols. |

If you go to the 1858 Remington forum and look for Mazo Kid he might be able to help you. He collects powder flasks.

Odd Job pointed out a reproduction that is available in England. I've emailed them.
