Winchester model 94 W.C.F.

I have a Winchester model 94 30-30. Serial number 1541xxx. I believe it is from 1949. It has a peep site as well as the regular site. All functions are operable and there is no rust. It has a newer stock...not original. I see these sell anywhere from $1000 to $1500 if condition is good...or better. Does anyone have a guess as to how much the non-original stock would affect the price?

It would really help if you could post photos of you 94.
The are a lot of variables in pricing, depending on what has been done to yours.

It's not a good idea to be publishing your exact serial number. While it's a bit late at this point, you might want to edit and replace the last three digits with xxx.

The 'new' stock is over 30 years old....just not original.

The butt stock looks original. The fore stock looks like an 80s XTR.
As for value, it should be worth at least $500ish, but it all depends on who will pay for it.

I don't think any of the wood on that rifle is original. The butt stock is wrong for a carbine and It looks like a take off from one of the commemoratives. Also, the forearm is checkered and I don't think that was an option in 1949.

I was responding to a thread on another site just yesterday about an M94 estimated to have been made in 1944. Checking the list of serial numbers I have, there is no record of M94s being made from post 1942 until 1949. I think his estimate of 1949 is pretty close to being correct. Whatever happened to the original wood may never be known but I don't think any of the wood is original.

The old butt stock was broken in a vehicle rollover accident. I was just a kid, so do not the know the details of where the replacement came from. I was always under the belief that
the forearm was original.....but that may wrong based on what you have said.

Is there any way to find out if the forearm part could be original? I am not aware of any collectors in my area.

All the information I can find does not show factory checkering on the forend of a 1949 era model 94.

I cannot put a date on your forend, only that factory checkering of the model 94 forend didn't happen until more recent times.

Its also possible my information is not complete. one of the things that collectors love (and that drives them nuts sometimes) is the huge number of variations that can exist and be "correct".

I don't THINK your forend is original, but I wouldn't put any money on that.

The serial number puts it at 1949....to my figuring anyway.

Stocks are not original...as you say...but the gun is in good shape.

I am off to our local gun dealers next week to see if they are interested....or know someone that may be.
