After waiting six months for the F4, I finally got to go to my dealer's house over the weekend to pick up the latest new toy along with a few other semis that I've bought over the last couple months and were collecting dust at his place. I've had it out and shot it before, but I was finally able to take it home...

MG42 set up as a mock MG3, complete with HK 50rd belt drum attached. Also got a MAK90, Bushmaster AR15 (with Aimpoint & KAC BUIS), Cav Arms lower, two RRA lowers, and a 10-22 (not pictured).

I know. I keep buying them and then selling them off later when I need a little extra cash to pull off another deal. I think the one in the pic is the fourth or fifth one I've had. Hopefully it'll be a keeper.

I lived in NYC for 7 years, so I sadly enough know the laws. I had to leave NYC to buy toys to carry.

Well, that's a bummer for New Yorkers. Out in Oregon, its completely legal to carry a sidearm in a holster without a permit or nuthin' Pretty nice open carry laws out here. Strap your AR15 on your back and walk around town! You get all kinds of negetive attention, but hey, its legal! I've walked back to my house from the pawn shop with newly acquired AK, not because I didn't have transpo, but just because I felt like exercising my rights.

What's even cooler is that, for this state, the law is that if you are going to or returning from a hunting or fishing trip you can legally carry a concealed weapon in your car/truck without a permit. Just gotta make sure you keep that fishing pole and tackle box in you truck at all times.

The MG42 is full auto - an original, uncut, C&R German gun from around 1944. Everything else in the pic is semi, but I do have a few M16s and other full autos that aren't pictured.

Where do I keep 'em?

In the gun safe with all the other toys (outside of NY state).

I'm not a citizen of NY State. I often work in the city and I have an apartment here, but I'm a citizen of a 'free state' where I can buy MGs. While moving to another state may not be an option for you, you could form a corporation in a nearby state where MGs can be bought legally and but them as corporate assets. The guns could not go back to NY state with you, but I've known a few people who have used this approach and had them stored at a rental facility.

Going rate for a transferable MG42 is about $40,000 and climbing. I bought mine a little over a year ago for quite a bit less, but its appreciated in value quite nicely as well as being a great shooter.

I've read many times of the horrific feelings soldiers would get just hearing the report of the MG-42; to your ears, does it stand up to such a reputation?

Well I sure as hell wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it.

I run mine in 308 as a mock MG-3 so the rate is a little slower than in 8mm, but it's still terribly fast. I think the shortest burst I've been able to pull off on it is 5rds. While other beltfed guns like the 1919, M60, PKM, etc. all kind of chug along, the sound of the '42 really stands out.

Yea I saw an old training video about the Allies dealing with the dreaded 42, and the guy in the video said that its "bark was worse then its bite" When in reality, its bite was far worse. I can only imagine what it was like to go agaisnt that thing in combat, must have been purely terrifying.
