PSA AR10

The bait was too appealing and I got hooked. Plain Jane configuration @ $160 for the complete lower and $300 for the upper both shipped free (plus the $20 transfer fee).

I spent most of the summer hovering over those buttons.
Let's hear a report.

"I spent most of the summer hovering over those buttons."

I've been convinced for a while but waiting on both parts to have free shipping. Don't know as I really NEED a 308 semi-auto but if you deduct the cost of having one of my bolt rifles threaded, the SA is pretty cheap. I already have lots of .308 ammo from el-cheapo to match grade plus thousands of bullets and brass.

I bought/built one of their 308 AR rifles and am very pleased with it. I got one of the stripped blem lowers and waited a good while for their 20" rifle length gas uppers I had my eye on to be back in stock and ordered it once it was available. I fed it some cheap steel and brass ammo to get it broken in and the scope sighted in but she really started to shine when I pulled out some Federal 168grn BTHP gold match I had and she really liked that.

I bought their budget 308 upper and it jams frequently and shoots minute of broad side of barn. Complete opposite of my experience with their 7.62 x 39 upper.

I suspect I'll send this one back if it does that.

I have a very extensive review over here...IMHO, it is an outstanding bargain.

Nitrated, SS, and Criterion barreled, tons of info.

My 308 upper has a pinned front sight/gas port--and is a mid-length system. I almost never buy anything but a rifle gas system on any barrel 18" or over--which is what I think is the root cause of my issues--but who knows.

Try an adjustable gas block... it with make the PA10 a new rifle... much softer shooting and 5 times easier to stay on target.

Looking forward to more updates (from any PA-10 owner). I'm looking at getting another semi-auto .308 and this one recently caught my attention. Especially for the price. Of course, I'm also concerned you may "get what you pay for". Hopefully I hear more success stories that will sway me to hit that purchase button.

I'm one step closer to being a PA-10 owner. Got an email today that the lower was shipped. The upper arrived several days ago but I've been too busy to do more than just unbox it.

I have the budget 308 and it shoots great! Sorry for your bad luck, send it back to PSA! Opposite to your experience, My PSA 7.62x39 upper gave me problems before, I sent it back to PSA and they took care of me! PSA does not QC, we are their QC, but they have good customer service if you can reach them. They have a sub forum at AR15 .com forum and responsive.

It's OK--I'm not really upset at PSA (well, not that much) I've been an AR builder hobbiest long enough to know that "bad apples" is a fact of life you're going to have to deal with sooner or later. I just have a knack for stacking the bad apples odds in my favor. LOL

I'm surprised by how few detailed reviews of the PSA AR-10 are out there. This thing has been out for years, and based on the prices, they have to have sold a ton of them.

I've been tempted numerous times by the prices, but I just feel like I haven't been able to find good unbiased long-term reviews of these things.

My opinion about the PSA PA10 budget upper is--spring for the extra 50 to 100 bucks and get the one that comes with the SS barrel and free-float rail. Also, in general, I usually opt for a rifle-length gas system for a barrel of 18" or more.

Fishbed77... read my review, I truly think it is very informational... posted ealier in this thread.

I truly think the reason there aren't more reviews, is because of the lack of uniform standards ( Mil-Spec's ) for .308 AR's .... just trying to figure out what parts fit is a chore... And PSA tows the line of "use our parts" ... while I understand PSA's perspective.. it is very frustrating for first time builders and buyers.

Ultimately, I added a rifle length stock with an adjustable GB, Heavy .308 rifle length buffer and Tubbs .308 flatwire... and a Criterion barrel to improve overall accuracy.

If you enjoy tinkering on AR's ... the PSA is GTG.

I still think the PSA is a heck of a deal... the OEM nitrated barrel did very well accuracy wise and function wise after my tinkering.. the rifle is very overgassed out of the box... but now is very pleasant to shoot.

I also just tested a PSA PA65 upper... 5rd groups with 5 different brand ammos... were sub MOA.

Link to 6.5CM upper...

Teaser pic from the 6.5CM upper... best group of the day.

Case in point--I'm hand-loading some 44 mag cartridges as we speak--I just opened a new box of 240 gr xtp's--one of my favorite bullets from hornady. So I just had one jam in my press--and I kept trying to expand the neck--no go and finally the light went on and I got the calipers out--they had somehow slipped a 45 cal bullet into the 44 bag.

Love my PA 10. Bought the blemished lower and the 18" SS upper separately. I haven't had the time to really do accuracy testing with different loads as of yet. However, with the cheap PPU ammo, it keeps them usually in 1 1/2 to 2 inches at a 110 yards with a 5 shots. Just throwing to gether a few loads, it isn't hard to stay close to the 1 inch mark. With only 200 rounds or so, I have not had any function problem at all. I wanted it for hunting too. Last week I Took a nice 6 point with it. The rifle placed the round right where I wanted it to go.

I have just ordered an adjustable GB. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Couldn't pass up the price.
