SWAT Featured in Folio Magazine

Folio is a magazine for Publishers and Ad Agencies, so the following may be pretty dry for many. Still, it's pretty cool to see the "mainstream" taking note of our little "paramilitary" book.

Very nice. They hailed you as a success and held you up as a model for others. Congratulations Rich!

Quite an accomplishment indeed. Congrats to you and the whole crew at SWAT.

You know the most interesting thing about that article was the advertising situation.

You have said many times that you will not compromise the integrity of the magazine by publishing the typical 5 page feature article/infommercial that plagues so many other magazines.

Yet, knowing they will get no preferential treatment, advertisers are beating down your door trying to get space. So much so, that you have increased the number of issues, and may still have to add pages.

You must be on to something with this "tell the whole truth" policy. It has to be driving the folks at Time Warner nuts

Ssh. Don't tell everyone our secret. Before you know it, the industry will be full of print magazines that actually believe they can make money thru hard, honest work.

Some folks work because they have to, some work because they love the job.

Often when I’m working late I have an occasion to send an email to Rich, Kathy, Dennis or Betty (often as late as 11:00 p.m.), expecting a reply the next day. It never ceases to surprise me when I get a response within minutes. Rich has not put together a staff, he has put together the S.W.A.T. Team.

And hey, what other publisher maintains a fairly active presence on four or five forums to answer questions from readers?

Denny

I think Denny hit on it right there.

While others in the industry may try to "mimic" Rich's philosophy, they can't duplicate the dedicated, cohesive team that you guys have assembled.
