Keltec P17

I just ordered one off of GB.
16 shot magazine .22 LR pistol. Comes with 3 mags at $199 retail.
It should be fun.
Anyone else have one?

I have one. Mine has run very well. It had some sharp edges on the bottom of mag release and the seam under the trigger guard. They were rubbing on my finger when shooting. I softened them with some fine sandpaper now it's fine. Also I had one mag that didn't drop free so I sent it to Kel Tec and they replaed it.

I read the early reviews and vowed to stay away. We just got one in the shop and I feel myself drawn back to it. Went back and saw some good recent reviews......
Might be sitting on my desk tomorrow night.

So you got it off of Gunbroker for the retail list price?

I'm absolutely amazed!

A few weeks ago I searched on Gunbroker and the cheapest deal was $259.95

I got the opportunity to handle one (not fire) last week,,,
I agree that the molded edges were somewhat sharp.

I'm supposed to go shooting with the owner in two weeks,,,
I really hope the pistol lives up to it's hype.

I think I just got lucky and looked when a batch had just been delivered. Someone else bought one for $199.
A sharp knife and some 400 grit sandpaper will take care of any sharp spots.

So, when can we expect a range report?

So, when can we expect a range report?

If there is anyone I'll trust to give an objective report it's you,,,
So go out there and shoot it like ya stole it.

Tell us the true skinny on the pistol.

Aarond

.

P.S. I've taken 800 grit sandpaper to every polymer pistol I've owned,,,
That includes my Ruger SR-22, LC9, and my Beretta U-22's,,,
The Elsie Pea didn't require any detailing.

Came home with mine tonight, $185.50 OTD. Can't wait to throw my .22 can on it this weekend! Just spent some time smoothing out the mold edges and tightening the screws. Lots of different .22 loads to try...all excited. Guys at the shop gave me a ton of crap for my new toy Mattel pistol, but eff'em!

There's just something about a small, light 17 shot .22 LR pistol that's cool.

I like it as a gift gun,,,

I have been known to gift a handgun to friends,,,
Mainly new college graduates I work with.

I have taken many undergrads to the range,,,
Several of them became decent and avid shooters.

A few times I have gifted them a semi-auto .22 as a graduation gift,,,
In most cases it was a Bersa Thunder .22,,,
With a total of three magazines.

Unfortunately that ends up costing well over $350.00.

If this P-17 turns out to be a decent shooter,,,
This will replace the Bersa as my gift gun of choice.

Mine has run fine with 400 rounds of CCI Mini Mags and Winchester Super X. I haven’t put it on paper but it is easily minute of pop can out to 60ft for my Son and I. Toward the end of shooting the rear sight screw backed off a bit so do keep an eye on things loosening up. For the $169 I paid I’m extremely happy with it.

Ran about 250 rounds of 5 different flavors of .22, had 2 ammo induced failures. Both eventually fired on the 2nd hit. I call reliability excellent, accuracy VG, fun-factor way over the top. The P17 ran great with my suppressor, and I loved the trigger and all the controls. My 2 shooting buddies agreed on all counts. Here are a few pics. Next is cleaning and inspection.

Kel-Tec needs to make a P-17M variant.

In the photos the 17 appears to be a bit large compared to their earlier 32 and 380 guns, which I have owned since pre production orders were taken at the shot show. If you have one of the pocket pistols would be interested in a side by side photo or comparison.

Thank you, I had no reference for size. It is what I suspected, a big for the caliber 22 LR.

I have much bigger .22 pistols. I wouldn't call it "big for the caliber".

It's not at all big for a 17 shot .22- but it's not a pocket pistol.
Mine should arrive at my dealer today.

So sorry.....
but today I got the laser zero'd. It doesn't help in the least for target shooting, but it is great for fast C-Mass grouping.
Next range trip......laser AND can!!!

Bill - I'm jealous. That is a great price. Let us know about its fun factor, accuracy, & reliability. I have my heart set on one but am refusing to pay above MSRP.
