My new 10-7

As much as I love my J frames. I wanted one better. My 10-6 feels great in my hands but it's a little too long.

That's where the 10-7 comes in. It's round butt and 6 shots. Perfect. The K frame is noticeably smaller than the popular L's.

It's not in my hands yet, but should be on it's way to me soon.

That's a nice one. The RB Model 10 snub is hard to find up in my stomping grounds.

Gotta love those Model 10s. I'm up to eight of them.

Your 10-7 is a six-shooter like your 10-6.

That is sweet!
I carry J frames, but once in a while I carry that ones lighter brother, a model 12 snub.
I've also been lookin' for a snub model 10 to go with my model 66, and 64 snubs.

There was a nice 36 at the gun shop. It's a beautiful gun.

I breifly thought of a D frame Colt, but I'm way more familiar with S&W's. This will also be a real carry gun and it would be a shame to get more wear on a fancy Colt.

The round butt's are harder to find, that's why I jumped on this one and paid a little premium for it.

$375, $400 shipped and the FFL wants an extra $45 for his troubles.

I have this revolver in my hands right now. Some good and bad.

Start with the good. The trigger is incredible on this thing! Best I ever felt. Even better than my Performance Center super fancy N frame.

The down side. First, I can tell it's been dropped, small dent on tip of barrel and ejector housing.

Some rust. Not much, but it has all been neutralized with my special stuff.

Bubba has been in this gun. The side plate was a little cocked and not flush when I got it. There's also evidence of it being pryed off.

The double action sear has been polished, hence the great trigger. So far it looks like bubba got that part right.

The inside had the old WD40 yellow varnish all over it. I cleaned it all out and getting the tortion spring back on the hand gave me fits. The rebound slide spring was actually a lot easier but I just ordered a tool for that.

Range day is tomorrow. I adjusted the screw on the mainspring a turn and a half out. It just makes it that much smoother. All the internals were cleaned out with Hornady One Shot case lube. It's a great quick drying dry lube, great for actions where you don't want dirt accumulation.

I got turned onto the K frame as a carry gun when I got my Model 65 in 3", and things haven't been the same. That's a beautiful piece, and I bet you'll enjoy it once you get all of bubba's fingerprints off of it.

Well, bubba really screwed me over.

One or two rounds per cylinder would not fire due to light strikes, even with the mainspring screw all the way in.

So, I've just ordered a new spring. I hope this solves my problem.

Opinions welcome.

"Bubba" may have also ground down the strain screw (to shorten it, thus lighten trigger pull). So if the new spring doesn't do it, a new screw may be in order.

That's not an adjustment, that's loose. They are factory adjusted by length to be correct when it is tight.

Guess what guys. The single action is jacked too. If you press on the hammer in single action mode it will fall, even without a finger on the trigger.

Advise?

I feel your pain. If it was mine, I would examine the internals and replace any part that looked "altered". That would probaly include the hammer. Which you can find on ebay for around $50.00

At the very least, I would contact the seller and voice my dissapointment/issues. If you cannot get any relief from the seller, (partial refund/return the gun) then I would work at trying to make a fully functioning revolver out of it.

That would be my advice... FWIW

At this point it seems to be a $400.00+ paperweight.

My current primary CCW is a Model 10-7 snubby as shared in the pic.

My advice is to NOT find a 3" Model 10 or 64.

The classic S&W. Cool.

A few years ago my wife bought me a 10-7 for my birthday. But it's a 4" version.

I found these a month apart at a local show.

For my 50th (getting to be a long time ago) my wife struck again and did this one for me. It's a 10-5.

I did contact the shop and they did offer to refund my money, but I didn't want to waste more shipping it back. Besides I just sent in my registration to the sheriff.

So, I called S&W. The guy said they don't sell hammers in that style anymore and that it would be best that I send it in, which I did.

They won't even look at it for six months!

Then it's $90/h plus parts.

Now I'm thinking that since I'm so deep into this thing I might as well have them tune it and refinish it.

This will be the LAST used gun I ever buy! At least online.

I missed the part with all the problems you're having. I would have returned it right away. Have you sent it yet? IME S&W hammers and triggers swap perfectly about 9 out of 10 times. A replacement hammer can be found pretty cheap and it may cure all the action ills.

The side plate sucks. May be able to carefully tweak it back. I have seen side plates for sale from cut up guns and one might fit.

Bad situation. Sorry.

Buying sight unseen is always a risk. I have been lucky. Out of maybe 100 guns off Internet auctions only one was really messed up.
