S&W 1911PD

My wife bought me this as a gift. It has the scadmium frame. Compared to my other 1911's (SIG, KIMBER, COLT) it does not seem as stout and the mechanisms are a bit rough!

Anyone have feedback on thier experience with this pistol?

I have one, never had a failure of any kind. Don't let that light weight scandium frame fool you, she's has stout as any of the others you mentioned.

The scandium frame makes for a lighter gun so it wont have the "heft" of a steel framed model. That also means that there will be more felt recoil. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the mechanism being a bit rough. They are mid-range production guns so right out of the box it wont have quite as smooth operation or trigger of the higher end guns but should get better after you get some rounds through it.

I've had two - a government model and a commander that is now my EDC. I prefer a steel frame for range use but really like the lighter scandium frame for carry. Both guns have been flawless performers, accurate, and reliable and I would not hesitate to recommend one to a friend.

Those Monkey Grips are about the nicest I have seen.

My S&W PD shoots good. I have about 100 rounds through it. Very accurate. I guess I just tend to prefer the heavier frame 1911's. I can see using this as a winter season conceal carry gun.

The slide safety on mine is gritty and functions fine, just is not smooth like my other 1911's. Trigger rattles as well. For some reason all the S&W 1911 PD's I held at the gunshop had loose triggers, but the trigger pull seems fine. Must be a S&W thing because none of my other 1911's have that rattley trigger!

Also, I could not get my Surefire X300 to fit the rail. Fit on my SIG Scorpion 1911 just fine. Seems that all the various companies have different rail configurations and all the various rail 1911's do not fit in the same holsters.

My Kimber Warrior fits in the ITAC holster I have, but the Smith won't fit!
