1920 Colt, First Series, Pre-Woodsman 22 Question

I have a 1920 Colt, First Series, Pre-Woodsman 22 and it is missing a part maybe a pin or rod that sticks up through the slide. I have attached photos.

Can anyone identify the part I need and a source to get one? I also would like to find a set of grips for it. It has the wrong grips on it now.

This might help:

http://www.colt22.com/ Click on the link for Woodsman parts. He has a schematic with the parts numbered.

Once you identify the part, you might check at www.gunpartscorp.com

The first thing I would advise you to do is go to this site and carefully read the section on takedown and assembly. Then read that section again. Pay close attention to the warnings about the recoil spring escaping from the assembly lock.

From your first picture, it appears that you are missing the assembly lock plunger, which is essentially a button that is used to depress the assembly lock before you remove the slide. I would imagine that the assembly lock itself is present because I don't know how someone would get the gun back together without it. You can take a pin punch and poke into the hole in the top of the slide. If you feel something springy, that is the assembly lock, and the punch can be used instead of the missing plunger when field-stripping the gun.

Also, stay away from high-velocity ammo. Read items 10 and 11 of the FAQ on the above site.

Thanks for the info.

The guy at that colt22.com website is traveling in Asia and Europe for another 5 weeks and the other website gunpartscorp.com doesn't have the assembly lock plunger, but does have a set of grips. I don't like these plastic ones. Plastic on a vintage gun somehow just doesn't seem right!
