Anybody have a source for shortening the magazine tube on a 870
I just got a price to shorten my magazine tube down to fit a 9" barrel and they want $275! Why so much!

Only person I know who builds AOWs is Mark Serbu ( http://www.serbu.com/ ). You might try asking him, but I have no idea if he does that kind of work on guns he's not building himself. The worst he could say is no... well, it might be a little more colorful than that...
lpl ETA- and as to why so expensive... The magazine tube has to be un-soldered from the receiver, shortened, re-soldered back into the receiver, and then the receiver has to be refinished. And most of the people who do this work have to buy expensive licenses for the privilege of doing business as well.

A 9" barrel? Is that a typo? Anything shorter than 18" is illegal!

jeramiah... With a tax stamp from atf it can have a 1 inch barrel and is considered a short barrel shot gun...
Visit the NFA section just below this shotgun section to see some nice legally owned guns.... Full auto, short rifles, short shotguns, AOW's (any other weapon) and silencers... They have a nice photo thread going Brent |

Not sure I'd pay $200 for some of those. An SBR Mosin? Don't know why.

Kmar40, if your buying a NFA weapon, you are gonna have A LOT more than $200 invested in it. As far as why, why do ppl buy money they can't spend, why do ppl buy 200 mph cars. They love them. Those who invest in NFA weapons do so out of their love of firearms, and firearm history. I would also imagine shooting them is a whole lot of fun too!

If you add $275 to the price of an 870, you could probably just buy a Serbu Super Shorty. Of course you also have to have the barrel shortened.
When I bought my Serbu, I got it used and saw several other ones used at that time. Point being, I think you would be money ahead to just buy the SS instead of putting one together yourself. Of course the SS has a 6" barrel if I remember correctly. I don't know if this is an issue for your or not. Well, maybe you don't want an AOW and want a full stock. If this is the case, just ignore me: nothing to see here.
