Henry Mare's Leg question for owners

First off it's been quite awhile since I've been here. You guys are my last hope for some answers. I'm a leatherworker and I have a customer (ordering through Facebook and not local to me) who's looking for a holster for a Henry Mare's Leg in .45 Colt. Normally I would order up a molding prop gun for a holster but I haven't been able to find anything at all for this particular gun. I've come up with a plan to build my own prop gun for molding by printing out a life size photo of the gun and gluing it to a piece of wood and then cutting it out. However since the photo is only 2d I have no idea what the thicknesses might be in critical areas (butt, wrist, receiver and forend). My customer has no reliable method for measuring these areas so what I need is for someone with the same gun to give me some reliable measurements at these points. If anyone here owns a .45 Colt Henry Mare's Leg and would be willing to make these measurements for me please message me, I'd be happy to offer a serious discount on any piece that I build in exchange for the information. Thanks,

Stu

I don't have a Mare's Leg, so I can't help you with dimensions, sorry.

However, since a Mare's Leg is just a lever action with a cut down stock and barrel, you might get some ideas from a rifle scabbard. I'd find out which Henry model they used to make the Mare's Leg, and then go looking for a scabbard that is the best fit, and use that to base your initial dimension on, (other than overall length)

Alternately, see if you can find a gunshop /store local to you that has the same model Henry rifle they used for the Mare's leg and see if they will let you take measurements from it. Unless its WalMart you could probably work out something with the manager...

Good Luck!

Always do but this guy is buying his second holster from me so I'm going a little out of my way for him.

No, but now you know what full-size rifle the Mare's Leg is derived from.

Try calling Henry. They are usually very accommodating about customer service.

I emailed them and they said they couldn't help me. Going to tell the customer to head down to the local harbor freight and pick himself up a set of dial calipers. I don't need it to be super precise so they should suffice
