Had a slow fire 97 today

I haven't written much about Bullseye shooting lately, but it's one of my favorite shooting things to do. By last summer I had gotten myself into the 830s a couple of times. Then, I had shoulder repair surgery in August - two tears fixed and bone spurs removed - and it set me back for several months. The shoulder froze up with the lack of movement while healing, and I didn't get the all-clear to start lifting weights again until November. But since that time, I've been working hard to get it back in shape both strength and flexibility-wise and it's feeling pretty good now.

Today's conditions in Central Florida were absolutely ideal - 70 degrees, no wind and overcast. I focused on standing up straight and stretching out my arm near the limit of its forward range, and that seemed to help me hold steadier than usual. My gun is a 1958 Hi-Standard Supermatic Trophy that has been updated with a 5-1/2" aluminum-shrouded Lebanon Screw Products barrel to reduce weight and improve balance. Even with the aluminum rail and the red dot installed, it's several ounces lighter than it was with the stock 7" steel bull barrel. The old barrel was no slouch, but the new barrel is remarkably accurate as well.

The 97 represents a new personal high for me at slow fire, and I thought I might be on my way to a new 900 match best with a slow fire total of 273. My timed fire average was also a personal best at 97.3. However, I had an ammo problem (badly formed round) on the first round of rapid fire that cost me both in the second string and in the refire string when I neglected to remove it and it caused both a misfeed and then failed to go into battery. Lesson learned. Anyway, it was a good day and gave me hopes of getting into new territory soon.
