RM380 serial numbers ending in C or any other letter

Do any of you RM380 owners have one with a serial number that ends in C or any other letter?

For example, RM123456C.

I bet that means compact or carry size even though they offer just one model from what I can tell.

It is much less likely today, but in the past several companies added letter suffixes to serial numbers that were accidentally duplicated during production.

^^^ Additionally, the 68 GCA forbids gunmakers from repeating serial numbers within a particular caliber, and many gunmakers have chosen to play it extra safe and never repeat a serial number ever. Alphabetical prefixes and suffixes are often used to guarantee this.

Thanks. Did you buy it online, and did it have any cosmetic issues when you received it?

Yes, mine ends in C. I bought it from a LGS. I bought it April 5, 2016. There were no flaws or blemishes on it. I've shot it a lot with no failures of any kind.

I'm glad to hear about all the non-blemished RM380s with SN's ending in C.

I thought that the C may stand for Cosmetic, because of an experience I had with Ruger a few years ago. There was an LCP on GB with a strange Model number ending in C. I called their CS and the lady didn't know anything about it, but she found out and called me back explaining that the C stood for Cosmetic (blem). That Model number didn't show on Ruger's website.

I was wondering if Remington was using the same strategy, but it looks like my pessimistic hunch was wrong, and that's good.

I haven't fired mine, and now it's at a 3rd party repair facility in Alabama. Remington's CS has been very good so far. After rebate and everything else my total price for the RM380 was $180, but I would like for a new gun to look like a new gun no matter what it cost. The finish on top of the slide in front of the rear sight was all scratched up.

We haven't gotten to shoot ours either yet so I can't speak on behalf of it's performance but it seems like a decent gun. She got them for 220 each shipped, and landed the black Friday rebate of $100 each.

I will be the first to admit my RM380 “barks” a bit and I would not wish to shoot a PPC match with it but for a drop in the pocket defense pistol it excels.

Mine ends in c. No blemishes when new. There are some small spots where the frame finish flaked around the mag release button.

How does your rifling look? Mine has scratches in the groves the lands are fine. I would say the bad rifling is a QC problem.

Similar to yours, it looks like a comb was drawn down the grooves.

Carmady, This is the email I sent Remington about the rifling.

Will you be selling barrels for the RM380? The barrel in my RM380 has scratches or gouges in the grooves. By the looks of it the tooling used to cut the rifling might have been dull or the operator did not use the proper cutting fluid when the broaching was done. I do have a little experience in this area as I have worked as a Tool & Die Maker for 40 years. I would like my RM380 to have a barrel with nice shinny rifling like my other pistols. I do not understand how this got past Quality Control.
Thanks

This was their answer.
The issue you are referring to has no impact on accuracy and is cosmetic. We do not sell the barrels direct but we can bring your firearm in for warranty evaluation.
Thank you,
Remington Consumer Services

So maybe the C stands for cosmetic. I am not going to send the whole pistol in for evaluation when they can do just a barrel swap.

I've sent mine back three times, each time for issues with the slide. The first time I asked Remington's CS if I could just send the slide in a USPS small flat rate box, but no. I had to wait for them to send me a tyvek envelope/bag so I could put my pistol in the original box and put the box in the bag. Then you have to call Remington CS again so they can notify FedEX, and then CS will tell you FedEx will pick it up between 24-48 hours, BUT FedEx has their stuff together more than Rem and they'll be by a day early. Then it goes to a third party for repair.

The first time it came back it looked worse than when it was sent. The second time it came back it looked as it should, but they didn't bother to install any of the firing pin parts or extractor parts.

I've never seen a bore that looks anything close to this on a new gun. I thought it was fouling from test firing, and I even scrubbed it with Chore-Boy.

I don't recall mine looking that bad. I need to break it down and clean it. I've not had any function issues whatsoever. After the first trip out to the range the finish flaked a little around mag release. When I clean it(again), I'll take a closer look at my rifling.

Hopefully this is a small issue and Remington sends out there tooling to get sharpened. Maybe if enough people complain about the bad rifling they will just do a barrel swap, it would be a lot cheaper then sending in the whole pistol. Only time will tell.

I see what Carmady describes. They are subtle and follow the path of the grooves to the end of the barrel. I haven't had any accuracy issues. If there were scratches that crossed the grooves, I would be more concerned. In comparison, my S&W M&P 22c has similar marks in it's grooves. My SAR K2P has an almost polished appearance on the lands and the grooves. I don't know if rounds shot makes a difference. I have several thousand through the K2P while the RM380 has around 200-250 and M&P only around 150.
