Ruger New Vaquero Grip Question

It looks like my Stainless New Vaquero came with Rosewood grips. They're nice, but not really my style.

I'd like to pick up a set of "stag-like" grips until I can afford some real Stag. (those are up there with having the thing engraved, someday).

My problem is, while I at first thought finding grips would be no problem, I keep finding grips that state "NOT guaranteed to fit stainless Vaquero's"

This bothers me, obviously.

Is the stainless vs. blued grip really that different? Honestly the fact that they could be just never occured to me when I bought it. I have not been able to find any stag-like grips listed as being for a Stainless New Vaquero...

Contact the guys at True Ivory. The have many types of grips. They made the grips for my 44 Mag Vaguero that is stainless and they fit like a glove.

Sack Peterson (google) made me a set, VERY reasonably, of his Elkhorn stag grips, which I'm extremely happy with.

I would suggest contacting him - he'll give you the straight skinny about stocking your stainless Vaquero.

Beautiful grips! Those mare pretty much exactly what I'm looking for... seems like this is a common issue for those of us with stainless Vaquero's...I guess for some reason the stainless gripframe isn't consistent?

Looks like I have my plan...

I'll contact Sack Peterson for my grips.

After that, I plan to have it engraved (A coverage) in American Scroll, with the old Colt advert on the backstrap:
"Be not afraid of any man,
no matter what his size.
When danger threatens
call on me, and I will equalize."

Just not sure who I want to have do the engraving yet...

THEN I hope to have it refinished in Carbona Bronze by Doug Turnbull.

She'll be quite a looker when I'm through...
