Another C.O.L. question, 45 ACP

I have a Springfield XD and I am loading from Speer's #13 book.

I am loading some TMJ 230 grn bullets and the book says 1.260 for the COL. With a minimum of 7.0 and a max of 8.1 of power pistol.

I reset the dies to load some GD- HP. Its C.O.L. is 1.200.

Well just to see what the outcome would be I loaded a TMJ in the dies and it turned out to be 1.241 C.O.L. I am loading the minimum of 7.0 grns of Power Pistol.

Is this going to be a problem or will it be just fine? Could I lower the charge a little?

You should be fine. I would just adjust your seating depth and load the rest of them to the correct OAL. Just remember that one is different, so if you're going for accuracy, its likely to have a different point of impact. Or you could pull the bullet and start again.

You will be fine at those settings. Have you used Power Pistol before? I tryed it in 9mm and found it a bit snappy. It is a slower burning powder than I normally use (Win 231) and find the recoil a bit more than my normal loads.

For 45 ACP - 5.6 grains of Win 231 set to a OAL of 1.200 (hollow Points) or 1.250 (FMJ). Both work extreemly well out of a Ruger P-97 or Kimber Eclipse Pro II (4").

Good luck and let us know how they worked out.

It is my first time, I only shot my first five this morning and I did notice they were a little snappy compared to the factory federals. But I did not think they were overly bad. I went a head and loaded 100 rounds today. I did re adjust my die before I finished. So I only have the one that is short.
