Okay here is my dilemma. This past weekend i went to a gunstore to originally buy a remington 870 it was on sale for 259.00 a good deal around these parts. Then the gun salesman shows me a suped up wilson scattergun k9 rem. 1187 on consignment from a LEO going for 549.00. A pretty darn good deal considering it cost a little over 1000 bucks brand new. Well i went home and i started thinking if i'm gonna go autoloader should i just bust out the big bucks kill my wallet and pick up a Benelli m1. I'm just worried that i might be passing up on a good deal with the 1187. Then i start thinking about how i really miss my 870 pump. Sold it stupidly, felt like i sold my soul! So to make a long story short i'm very confused and any feedback would be great.

Get what shotgun you want. Even a diehard 870 fan like me has owned and liked other shotguns. BUT....

An 870 is hard to beat for versatility, reliability and durability. Some folks here must be getting bored hearing me singing the praises of the old Remington, but it's an amazing shotgun.

IMO, any shotgun battery starts with the 870.

Those other shotguns may be fine weapons also. Consider tho,do you get the high priced geewhiz, of get the 870 and have some money for ammo, range time and maybe even a hunting trip or match?

All four of the 870s here cost less added up than my neighbor's Perazzi....

Ummm, everything Dave said. With an exception on the last statement cause I don't have a neighbor with a Perazzi.

Remington 870 pump man here also. But I believe I would have gotten the scattergun K-9. I like the price.

I guess I'm in the minority.
I'd get the 11-87. You said it's a Wilson/Scattergun K-9 for how much??

870s generally always are available. How often do you see a suped-up shotgun like that 11-87??

OK, I admit it, I'm biased because I have a Scattergun Tech 11-87 K-9 also. (this is a pre-Wilson gun)

I had a Benelli M1 Tactical Super 90 and traded it to my buddy after I used it in a couple shotgun classes. The Benelli worked GREAT for me (I cleaned it every day and unlike other Benelli/Beretta shotgun owners, I didn't have any malfs) but that Super 90 starts to really HURT well before 3 days are up. The 11-87 is much milder on me.

Well, that's my opinion.

Say, where is this 1187 for sale?

That's a good deal on the 11-87. Get that.

I'd go with the 870. I've had the 11-87Police and it was a nice gun. But it and all 11-87s have an inherent flaw: the o-ring in the gas system. This little simple piece of rubber will convert your semi shotgun to a single shot lump. I had my 11-87 for approx 3yrs and changed the ring a number of times. It always bothered me that the ring had potential to fail, so the 11-87 went way to an 870Police. I couldn't be happier.

Be Safe
Mike
