Cheers Bac, I figured there was something special about the Luger but couldn't pick it from the pic. Now that you mention it I see the rear sight.

Here it is...

Adjustable sights, bull barrel, adjustable trigger, etc...all were built in 1975-1976.

Favorite 9mm

2 that I own are the BHP and Ruger P89,. Excellent shooters, feel good in the hand(yeah the P89 too, I have big hands), eat up anything I feed them and accurate, IMHO. But I just tried a CZ P-09 at my local range and was blown away. Felt very comfortable in the hand(full size), 19 in the mag, 1 in the pipe, hammer fired(I like DA/SA as opposed to striker fired) and hit POA all day, accurate as all hell, gobbling anything I fed it( fmj, hp+p). This is my next purchase. Seems underrated and under appreciated, IMO. And competitively priced, lotta gun for the money.

I don't know if you know this or not, bac1023, but if you go back far enough in your family tree you'll see that we're related. Heir Ludwig has always been a family guy.

My 1989 choice

is the Glock17 pistol. My carry load is the great CorBon 9mm 115gr JHP +p round that exceeds 1400 FPS on my chronograph. And the loaded G17 weighs a mere 34 ounces!

CZ P-10C. Of course I say that because I've never even handled one, so it must be the best!
The best 9mm pistol I have personally used - CZ SP-01 Phantom, but it is always so highly subjective;
My buddy swears by his Browning HP.
The wife is enamored of her CZ RAMI 2075.
My best friend can't make up a mind between my Cajunized CZ P-09 or the older CZ P-01.
My employer insists Glocks are the best 9mm handguns on the market, but that's more politically driven.

What's the best gun, the absolute best most perfect pistol in the entire world? The one in your hand when you need it most.

Is it your purpose to buy one?
"the best" can be very arbitrary.
If I had to say which is "the best" IMO,
I would say

Beretta 92FS

Sig 226

FNX-9

FN Hi-Power

CZ-75

and not particularly in that order, are all tied for
"the best".

That's cheating.

either M39-2, BHP, or Colt Series 70 Combat Commander.

Using the Hornady 124gr XTP.

"That's cheating."

Well, somebody should have told the liberals that, when
they started handing out "participation trophies".

OP, there's no "hands down, winner" in this category.
You're just going to have to try them, and decide for yourself.
(Then buy the Sig, FN, or Beretta)

As a defensive tool, a Glock 19, as a combat tool, a BHP.

Depends what it's for, and of course it's subjective. I think a lot are tied for best and I would have a hard time choosing. If I were absolutely forced to make a pick for the best of all time, I would pick the CZ-75, even though it's not actually what I carry.

My Fav

I just bought a Walther PPS M2, I have shot quite a few other 9mm's and
this one feels good in the hands, has a reliable track record, and hits what I aim at, so, it's my choice.

Not to be a smart aleck, but the best 9mm is the one that I'm carrying at anyone time. Right now it's my Glock 19 which is the only 9mm I've ever owned until next week.

Considering them all, and for all legal purposes, it would be the Browning Hi-Power. If you've never picked one up, nor shot one, you owe it to yourself to beg, borrow or buy one and give it a thorough range work out. I bet you'll add your name to four generations of shooters who have fallen for it's beautiful, austere design. Here's mine sporting a set of Hogue grips. Rod

Best for what?

Assuming you mean all around best, I'd have to say the Glock 19.

Reasons for this...

1. Reliability
2. Proven track record in actual shootings
3. Simple design - ease of detail stripping is a key consideration
4. Cheap and available parts
5. Very accurate
6. Ability to go up to 32+ rounds of firepower
7. Large aftermarket for parts and holsters

YMMV...

I'm really liking my m&p shield, but its my first 9mm.

For a full sized pistol I'll prefer a full sized round (I have a gen1 glock 20 in 10mm for that).

I'm not sure which is best but I am sure which is my favorite 9mm. It is absolutely the Browning Hi-Power MK III.
