SP101 Barrel Fix

I have a Ruger SP101 with a barrel that's got a slight angle to the right. It, therefore, shoots a bit to the left. Anyone know who might be able to correct the problem and make it an accurate shooter? It's the gun and not me - I swear.
Thanks.

There seems to be a "run" on Ruger Sp-101's with the barrel not set at top-dead-center. This used to be a problem with the post-1972 Colt Detective Special's.

Best advice is to send it back to Ruger along with a sample target,
so they can see how far off it it's grouping.

Even if you're not the original owner, they will usually fix it for no charge.

Some have the barrels screwed into the frame crooked...
Others have the barrels under or over screwed so the barrel is straight but the sight is not vertical.

Either way, send it to Ruger. Call em first.

That's not an option. I've already sent it to Ruger and they were pathetic. I'm not even remotely difficult and don't want to waste your time with details (unless you really want me to). A S&W 60 seems like maybe the only fix.

Nevermind - It's outta here.

Anklepocket, a smith could index it properly for you. A tiny bit needs to be removed from the barrel shoulder so that it will screw in a tad more. George

Is your SP new? If so find out if the dealer you bought it from is a Davidsons distributor. If he is take it back to him, you'll probably have a new one within a week.

Like Sam says, send it to Ruger and explain that the barrel is offset to the frame. Had a Vaquero that was that way and they corrected it.

Gary...
Did they replace the frame (new gun) or was it just the barrel that was mis-machined ?

Replaced the barrel. Either whoever threaded the bbl didn't do it right or the assembler didn't crank it on enough. Presently it wears a SS 44 Mag with a 4 5/8" bbl now but was longer and "offset." At my request, the barrel was swapped for a shorter one. In those days, the 44 Mag w/ 4 5/8" was not in the catalog.

Thanks Mr. Stringer. You've given hope to the weary.
