The earlier 60's are ~21 oz. The 442/637's are 15 oz. The difference being a steel vs. aluminum frame. Jim |

I have a Smith and Wesson model 60 S/N 54834. The barrel only says 38 S.&W. SPL. Can anybody tell me year it was made and whether +P ammo is safe? I think I have it narrowed down to between 1965-1988 but somebody who actually knows would be appreciated. Thanks

"Too new" is close enough for me .
I really thought it might be older because it doesn't have a lock. Thanks, Best, Will |

old .38 help
I recently inherited a .38 special snub nose revolver. There are no distinguishing marks that i can see. I have searched the internet high and low and this forum seems to have the best info. The serial for the firearm is 1235xx. if you could help identify the model and DOB for me, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
