I am looking for the shipping/production date of my new S&W 686. I think it's from the 1980s. The serial number is ADV6XXX.

Thanks guys!

Just scored an A Serial Model 41, A225xxx. I think it is from 72 or 73.

Thanks!

Model 41, A225xxx.
Serial numbers ran from A175001 in 1973 to A235000 in 1974.

Model 41's are great guns! I have two of them, one from 2001 and another from 1959. They both love CCI standard velocity.

Thanks Jim!! This is my second, I have another that looks nearly new from '84. I don't see them for sale that often so I snatched this one up.

Yes, that is the serial number and dates it to around 1991.
A 16-4 is a pretty scarce gun.

It came into my shop, and I'll probably never have an opportunity to buy it. But I'd snatch it up if it came out for sale to pair with my model 15. Thanks again for the information. That's about what I figured.

Hi, Jim! What do you think was the DOB of a .32 Hand Ejector numbered 664726?

Thanks in advance!

I'm currently out of town for the holiday and do not have the book with me. I will look up and post dates upon my return.

Hope you enjoy your trip Jim!

When you get a chance after you're back, I scored a Model 37, J997xxx. No barrel bin, so I assume mid to late 80's.

Thanks!

I'm assuming this is a I frame and not the larger K frame K-32. Looks like 1957.

Looks like 1995 is it.

Thanks, I enjoyed it alot!

J997xxx = 1982. Same year S&W was transitioning away from barrel pins.

1981. Serial numbers ran from J760001 to J915400 that year.

Found a Highway Patrolman revolver in an old house we bought for remodeling. Not in bad shape. Trying to date it correctly. Model 28 S/N S2163**

Best I am reading via internet maybe 1961? Could this be correct? S&W revolver dating has always seems like an alien code to me. Any help is appreciated.

Serial numbers ran from S207000 in 1960 to S219999 in 1961 so 1961 looks to be it.
