Do you want something that performs differently than revolver ammo?

Thanks fellows, im trying to load some 44mag with Hunter Supply 300 grain LFN lead bullets for Henry 44 lever action. the gun belongs to my cousin who doesn't live nearby. I just wondered if anyone ever used this size bullet in Henry 44 before, and if it feeds ok. Sure is big bullet. Thanks

I have a Henry Big Boy in .357 mag ....and I just load the same round for the rifle that I do for my revolvers...( 158 gr JHP ).....
if I had purchased the rifle in .44 Mag....I'd load the same round that I use in my .44 mag revolvers....240 gr JSP ....( both bullets are Montana Gold )... |

Some 300 gr .44 caliber bullets intended for revolvers are too long when crimped in the cannelure for lever action rifles. This is why many of the 300 gr jacketed bullets have two cannelures. You will need to stay close to a 1.610'' OAL for proper feeding. I believe the Henry has a 1-38 twist, which may or may not stabilize a heavy for caliber bullet. I wouldn't load too many without him trying them first.
EDIT.....the Hunters Supply website claims that bullet is designed for both revolver and lever action carbines. Pretty pricey bullet. |
