Dent in barrel.
My friend has a batavia leader double barreled 12 gauge shotgun with a large very noticeable dent in the left barrel down about 14 inches or so and. The dent starts from inside the barrel and is going outwards. Can anything be done about this? If so, what? Thanks.

A good gunsmith can minimize the dent.

Would it be safe to shoot? And around how much would it cost to fix? Thanks

dent in barrel
This sounds like a barrel bulge from firing a round down an obstructed barrel. A good gunsmith can remove most of the bulge, and the gun should be ok to shoot without worry of a burst barrel. I have a Miroku O/U with a similar condition that was caused by a previous owner, and I shoot it. I just use standard pressure loads in that barrel. I haven't patterned it but that may be the worst thing about it.

However, what you describe is likely the effect of firing with something partially obstructing the barrel. Have the gunsmith advise if the structural integrity of the barrel has been compromised...it may not be safe to shoot anymore. |
