Remington Uberti flaw?

In my hunt for a c&b pistol I came across some basket cases, along with some fine firearms.

One that I have a question about is a 58 Remington by Uberti that has a score (scratch) in the blue all the way around the cylinder (from the cylinder lock up). Is that common? I took it as a symptom of something wrong in the guts or a owner who didn't pay much attention.

He didn't want a whole lot for the pistol, which is in good shape--doesn't seem to have been used much, but that scratch was unsightly and baffling.

Sorry if I'm talking y'all's ears off with questions. I'm returning to black powder after a 30-year absence.

Ringing of the cylinder is a common problem on repro C&Bs. It can be an indication being out of time, bolt not retracting fully, or just the way it is handled.

Yep i have two oppsssss i mean 3 58 remmys,
2 have the ring around the cylinder and one
does not, now i come too think about it the
oldest one is the one that does not have the
ring around the cylinder, but they all shoot
very well.
If you look at a lot of saa you will find a lot
do have rings, so do not lose sleep over it,
not unless its cutting a grove in the cylinder.

I have 5 1858 Remmies ..none have the cylinder ring and very little pinging if front of the lock up notch ...When I take a new one out of the box , I tear it down and adjust the timing and loosen the bolt trigger spring by at least 1/4 turn sometimes a full half turn depending on what it needs . That ring doesn`t have to happen , but if you don`t know the cure it will and does .

remmys , so i to will not get a ring round the cylinder

Cylinder rings are most often caused by misuse such as letting the hammer down from half cock etc. not from anything being wrong. Some folks find them unsightly and unbearable, don't bother me. If it bothers you do not get a Ruger, they're notorious for it. I bought a used 58 remington with a scored cylinder. My 60 Colt doesn't have one nor do any of my other revolvers that aren't true antiques.

A little blue cream would mask it. Not a big deal as was stated about Ruger Revolvers they all do.
Buy a new one as Cabelas has a cute little 5 1/2 inch for not much money.
