Dumb Shotgun Storage Question
Hi, all
Shotgun newbie here in MA. I recently bought a beautiful, used 870 Wingmaster with the long barrel. The barrel is too long to store the rifle in my safe in one piece, so I’m removing the barrel and setting them both inside separately. Is this ok? Any risk to damage, etc.? Told you it was a stupid question.... Thanks! |

I'd be really, REALLY surprised if that caused any damage.

I’ve stored Long guns the same disassembled way- the only minor issue I had was a little bit of moisture from the lowest point in the cabinet collecting on anything in the foam floor. I put a little cardboard box with dried rice for a little base. It wasn’t a big issue, just maybe handy to think over. It cost a cup of uncooked rice fried dry in a skillet and a little corrugated box I found around the house.

Isn't going to be any damage storing with the barrel off. Mind you, the term 'long barrel' is relative. I believe the longest factory barrel is 30".
And the only stupid question is the one not asked. Uncooked rice will absorb a lot more moisture than cooked rice, but you really need a 25 watt light bulb to heat the cabinet just enough to stop condensation. Assuming the water is caused by that. Moving the cabinet to some place that's dry would be best.
