Which Crimp on a Shotgun Hull?
Loading NEW 3" High Brass Shotguns hulls with 7 1/2 shot should it be a 6 or an 8 crimp. Thanks.

You didn't mention if your hulls are skived (the wall thickness is reduced at the end to facilitate crimping) or unskived, paper or plastic. For 12-ga skived plastic hulls (the most common), most folks prefer an 8-point crimp. Aside from looking prettier, there are claims the 8-point crimp will provide more reloadings before burning out and provide a better seal to promote better powder burns.
For paper hulls, and unskived plastic, 6-point crimps are standard. The thicker walls typically won't allow a clean 8-point crimp. If you want, skiving tools are available. |
