I have the new 1941, and a beech stocked 1947, the shooter.
Do get the bayonet as soon as you can, they are disappearing, and going up in cost. The brass muzzle covers are not rare, but cost more than the later aluminum ones. The brass certainly looks better. Samco has new slings available now, good price. |

I was thinking of buying the sling/muzzle cover combo. Might do that

Apologies for the photos, but this is the new K31.
I am stunned to see a 1941 service rifle in this condition, but looking at the production run totals from the serial no. reports, the Swiss puttered along making 10,000 or 15,000 rifles a year, then in 1941 and 1942, a sudden jump to 40,000 a year, in anticipation of a German invasion. I believe the German assault on Russia in 1941 and getting bogged down there in 1942 allowed the Swiss to just keep them crated up, continuing to issue new rifles from decreased production in 1943 and later. No point in pulling new rifles out of storage to be replaced by new ones, if demands are not high. Last edited by kilimanjaro; July 24, 2014 at 08:58 PM. |

So are you going to shoot it or store it??
It would be cool to have one but I think I'll just stick with the 36 I have and can shoot without feeling bad/dirty. |

I have a 1947 shooter, maybe 95%. I'll shoot it and store this one for appreciation or when the Zombies come.

Southern Ohio Gun has bricks of GP11 in stock, saw it the other day.
I reload it, too. Fast, easy, cheap. |

I calculated the reloading cost for the stuff Ill be using, and excluding the brass (which I plan to reuse) My Cost Per round will be nearly half of what GP11 is, and probably just as accurate.

If you match the specs for GP11, you'll be just as good. My experience is that my reloads are better than commercial ammo. Don't know about the GP11, it's surplus and I don't shoot surplus anymore if I can help it. The Swiss stuff is outstanding, by reputation.

I might play around with different bullet weights and charges just to see what shoots best, non might not match exactly.bi still have to get a reliable source for OAL and trim length. I measured a GP11 cartridge this morning and the OAL was 3.043. Would the OAL change depending on bullet weight?

No, you set your seat die to factory OAL using a GP11 cartridge and seat all to the spec thus produced.
The Swiss did a lot of playing around with bullet and charge before finalizing the design specs. Any improvement you can get will be trivial. Try your luck. K31s shoot better than we do. Last edited by kilimanjaro; July 28, 2014 at 11:03 AM. |
