I have a S&W 638 that I like very much but I hate it's crappy coating . It's very soft and is coming off the backstap after less than a year of moderate use. I'd like to get the gun bright chromed. Is this a viable option for a stainless/alloy handgun? Is electroless nickle better? Who is a good vendor for this type of work? It will probably be a daily carry piece. Thanks in advance.

Burrhead , you can not hardchrome aluminum . You would have to electroless nickel it or a special coating like Robar , etc. Hope this helps , Mike...
